As a Real Estate Agent, How Can I Make the Most of My New Realtor Headshots?
One of the most important decisions you can make is to choose a good headshot photographer to take your headshots for marketing, after you get your real estate license. A professional photographer with real estate headshot experience will spend time with you before, during, and after the shoot to ensure that the headshots you take meet your business goals.
Take the lead! You can make the most of the new realtor headshots by using the right photo for the right agent marketing purpose. Your new headshots are the key to your agent branding. Use them tastefully to ensure that social media, business cards, websites, directories, emails, direct mail flyers, wall posters and banners – all have your updated professional headshots resulting consistent messaging for potential clients – all working together to elevate your brand.
Color matters. Coordinate with you logo colors, your website colors, your wardrobe and background color selection should be considered before the photo session. Your professional photographer should come in handy to guide you with great resources.
Your new realtor headshots are the key to your branding.

There are several wardrobe mistakes that realtors should avoid when having their headshots taken.
First, it is important to avoid wearing clothing that is too busy or has bold patterns. This can be distracting and take away from the focus on the realtor's face.
Second, realtors should avoid wearing clothing that is too casual, such as t-shirts or shorts. This can give the impression that the realtor is not professional.
Third, it is important to avoid wearing clothing that is too tight or revealing. This can also give the impression that the realtor is not professional.
Fourth, it is important to avoid over-accessorizing. Wearing too many accessories can be distracting and take away from the focus on the realtor's face.
Fifth, it is important to dress in a way that is appropriate for the area you are selling properties in, if you are selling high-end properties, you should dress in a more formal attire, if you are selling properties in a laid-back area, you can dress more casually.
In general, it's best to stick with classic, neutral clothing that is appropriate for a professional setting. This will help to ensure that the focus is on the realtor's face and not on their clothing.

How to Make Your Next Real Estate Agent Headshot Session a Runaway Success?
As with almost any endeavor it is smart to start with a good plan. One of the first decisions you have to make is choosing your headshot photographer – someone with skills and experience and someone you can feel comfortable with.
How do I choose the right professional photographer for your realtor headshot in sherman Oaks?
Look at their website - review their portfolio of images and samples of realtor headshots. (You may even see your professional colleagues on the site…always a good sign!)
Read online reviews from other real estate agents to get a sense of their work and how they take care of their customers.
Make a telephone consultation with your prospective realtor photographer. Call and discuss your headshot goals and solicit advice on what to wear, makeup and hair, backgrounds, poses, etc. The skills and experience of the photographer will become evident and guidance from a real expert will be very useful in creating a good plan.
Book Your Professional Realtor Headshot Session - With a plan in place and a session booked, you just need to show up and leave the success of theagent session in the professional photographer’s hands.
The Headshot Experience - A experienced professional photographer will make you feel comfortable in front of the lens, guiding your poses, hand placement, wardrobe choice, background color choice, jewelry, nails, will notice lint on clothing and be quite detail oriented - while of course sending subtle clues to set you at ease in front of the camera even before capturing that perfect moment. Read “What to Wear for Headshots” to find out how to protect your photography investment, the Do’s and Don’ts of what to wear.
After the shoot - A professional photographer will take the time after the photo shoot to go over all the images and help you to choose those that have the best pose, the best expression, and convey the right emotion IN PERSON for a real estate agent. Some photographers will send you on your way and will email you a link to an online gallery. Most average folks are not comfortable picking their own photos without professional guidance. Which do you prefer? Professional expertise explaining why one pose is best, noticing the imperfections or posing errors or awkward expressions or deciding on your own, without easy access to the expert to question before you make your final branding selection? A good feature of the experience to find out in advance.
Perfecting the final image with Retouching - Will your photographer expertly retouch your final realtor headshots or will they do a simple blemish removal? Ask how much time they will spend on each image. Expert retouching takes time to smooth skin, whiten teeht and eyes, remove stray hairs and lint, remove bumps and bulges from clothing - as well ask wrinkles. Undereye circles and double chins. Didn’t have time to have your nails done? This can be fixed in Photoshop. Even digital eyelashes can be added if a makeup artist is not available. Professional retouching is a nuanced art that takes many years to become a master retouch artist. If this is a service you would like to have, find out in advance if this is included in the service. Usually 1 - 1.5 hours is required from proper retouching of a professionally branded image. Use this time frame as your guide.
The final results of your professionally branded Realtor Headshots- Your final Real Estate Agent Headshot will just be the beginning of your marketing journey and you want to be happy and proud of your image. A successful headshot session is a result of planning, collaboration, trust, expertise, artistic execution, and excellent customer service – blended to deliver an excellent experience and great results.

I’m older now and don’t look as good as my last Headshot – As a Professional Realtor, what’s my best option?
Only you can answer if you feel confident enough about your looks to update your image. It is generally important for your Sherman Oaks and San Fernado Valley clients to identify the image they see on the screen or in print with the actual person he or she is meeting. And while many of us are self-conscious about looking older, age also implies wisdom and experience.
The trick is to make you look your very best.
Background color / type: Choosing the right background, the right color, indoor, outdoor, a textured wall or a solid surface.
Clothing / Style: Choosing the most appropriate wardrobe is key and sends the right message to target the correct audience. I always ask a realtor, who is your buyer? Do you want to wear designer clothing if your are selling to a first time home buyer who may be intimidated by your designer clothing? Connect with your buyer. See more wardrobe tips here.
Posing - welcoming and approachable facial expression, posture and pose is usually what I recommend for a real estate agent. Use the face you would have welcoming a client at an open house. I discuss these options at our first telephone consultation so you are prepared for the shoot. Your pose and facial expression should match. I often compare it to…what would you look like at an real estate open house? You put on a very welcoming expression and shake your prospect’s hand, right? You want to communicate that through your realtor headshot.
Professional lighting - Soft large lighting sources will flattering for skin and hair. Lighting from the right angle will show or hide features of your body type that you may want to disguise. Leave that to me, but trust me, it is a big part of the final result of your professional realtor headshot with great results!
Composition and framing the right shot - Before our photo shoot we will discuss how you will be using the realtor headshot photos. Based on use we will plan how to compose the shot - vertical? horizontal photos? Close crop? (do you need blank space to put copy for ads next to you) or leaving enough room to put the property you are selling into the composition? Planning ahead always results in excellent results.
Facing the proper direction - I always recommend facing toward the center of the page (or screen) so you are not turning your back toward your audience. It is a more welcoming stance and sends a subliminal message that you are interested in the information you are selling. I usually recommend taking photos facing both directions giving you more options for your real estate marketing purposes.
Fixing all the little imperfections - smoothing out your skin and perhaps those pesky crows feet, or double chins or skin texture on your neck that may not be as perky as in years past, brightening your teeth and eye-whites, adding catch-lights to your eyes, removing lint and clothes wrinkles, or those bumps and bulges caused by clothing that is not as tailored as it could be….can all be fixed during the professional retouching process. We retouch “to taste” on a scale of 1-10 based on your preferences. We don’t want you to look like your younger sister (or brother) but want you to look your absolute best. We will discuss it in advance, and after you make your photo selections directly after the shoot - we will decide together to perfect level of retouching for your tastes (with samples to show you of course!)

The Magic Combination of Confidence and Approachability:
The Key Attributes of a Successful Real Estate Agent
Confidence and approachability are key attributes for a successful real estate sales agent, as they are essential for building trust with potential clients. When it comes to transmitting the right message in an online world, a well-crafted headshot can be the center of a realtor's personal brand.
Your headshot is often the first point of contact

How Confidence is Conveyed Online as a Realtor
Confidence can be conveyed through body language, such as a strong posture and direct gaze, as well as through the realtor's attire and overall appearance. A well-dressed, well-groomed realtor will project an image of professionalism and competence.
Never underestimate Approachability - How you are Perceived
Approachability, on the other hand, can be conveyed through a warm and inviting smile, as well as through the realtor's facial expression and body language. A realtor who appears open, friendly, and easy to talk to will be more likely to build a connection with potential clients.
In an online world, a headshot is the center of a realtor's personal brand, it is critical to have a high-quality and professional headshot that projects confidence and approachability. A power portrait that transmits the right message can help to establish trust with potential clients and set the realtor up for success in the competitive world of real estate sales.

Tips To Prepare for Your Professional
Real Estate Agent headshot session
-
Just on your LinkedIn profile? For conference catalogs? Email signatures? Websites? PowerPoint presentations?, School applications? Clients across Sherman Oaks, Studio City, and Woodland Hills use their headshots for LinkedIn, websites, flyers, yard signs, and even email signatures. I’ll tailor your session to fit exactly where your photo will be seen most.
-
It depends. A smile is appealing and will invite people to get to know you. I always ask your profession to find out if a smile is appropriate. As a Realtor - being approachable is KEY. (Think Open House smile)! A natural, confident smile connects better with buyers and sellers in markets like Calabasas and Encino. I’ll coach you to find your most approachable expression without looking forced.
-
Many Sherman Oaks realtors haven’t updated theirs in 5–10 years. A fresh headshot signals confidence and trust — and keeps your brand current with the competitive Southern California market.
-
Looking left or right - on social media like Facebook, we want to make sure you are not looking off the page into the margin! Think about what side of your business card your image will be on. Where is your image placed on your website? On your realtor sign? On your fliers? We’ll pose you based on the layout of your business cards, signs, or website. I work with agents across Woodland Hills, Studio City, and Sherman Oaks, so I know what works best in this market.
-
During our 30-minute session we can try a few color choices. You may want to match your branding colors of your logo or website.
-
Absolutely. I’ll guide you through relaxed, flattering poses that reflect your professionalism. Most of my Studio City and Encino clients are surprised at how easy and fun the session feels.. Consider your pose before your photo shoot by looking at sample images. Lean on your knee or hand? Arms folded? Hand and arm positions - integrate near face? Happy or serious? For more detail visit our posing blog.
-
Necklaces shouldn’t touch neckline (either above or below). Decide if you want to wear a watch in your photo. Pre-plan the jewelry you want to wear with each outfit. Minimal is best. A classic watch or subtle earrings work well, especially for headshots targeting upscale neighborhoods like Calabasas or Westlake Village.
-
V-neck vs. scoop neck - V-necks are more slenderizing than scoop-necks. Try on clothing prior to photo shoot to select clothing that enhances your face. Simple, structured necklines work best — like V-necks, crewnecks, or button-downs. Whether you’re shooting in Agoura Hills or serving clients in Sherman Oaks, clean lines help you look polished.
-
Read this blog “Choosing the best color to wear for headshots”for tips on color. I recommend a white shirt / top to brighten eyes and teeth, or a vibrant color like yellow, red, teal are always good choices.
-
See-through materials in blouses will show under garments when the flash goes off and should be avoided.), Too textured favrics (knits) will cause moire patterns, small patterns/stripes will cause wavy lines in digital imagery. See page “What to Wear for Headshots” for samples and more ideas.
-
Makeup artists and professional hair styling will always enhance your look in a photo. (We offer referrals.) It is not always necessary to go to that extent with Karen Vaisman Photography. Karen is a master retouch artist. We offer digital makeup and eyelashes for FREE included with your retouched session! Read this blog “Makeup for Headshots” for more information and image samples.
-
Yes — I’ll send you a detailed wardrobe prep guide before your session, including color suggestions that flatter you and photograph beautifully.
-
Sherman Oaks realtors often opt for light gray or soft white backgrounds — clean, neutral, and professional. We’ll test a few options to complement your outfit and marketing needs.
-
While photographers in Sherman Oaks may charge a wide range, my realtor headshot sessions typically start at $299, including coaching, expression guidance, and expert retouching. You can see our headshot pricing here.
