Sometimes, the reviews about a person has leads to disappointment. Other times, they live up to or on rare occasions, exceed all expectations. Now, that is a tall order, exceeding all expectations, when that someone has a rating of over 4.8 stars with enough reviews to suggest she is for real. That someone is Karen Vaisman of Karen Vaisman Photography. I reached out to Karen with what I thought would be a tough, maybe impossible job. I had 4 WWI Photo Postcards that had been made during the war, (Questionable processing) and sent through the postal system. They were quite damaged yet I was hopeful that she could do something with them so I could see my grandfather as a young man. A real Photo Restoration Project.
Well, she shared with me after the fact that she started in on the job before making commitments because she wasn’t sure she could do anything with the photos. She didn’t want to mislead me and was willing, on her own, to risk her time to experiment. Well, she experimented, and the product is outstanding. It took all her skills, Photo restoration plus artwork to restore the old photos. She even had to recreate part of a lost image.
Karen clearly demonstrates the difference between taking photos/Photoshop and the art of the process. If you want beautiful art, true to the original, Karen is worth every cent. She can do what can’t be done through any system, she can add the human touch. Thank you, Karen!!

Picture Restoration FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions On Restoring Old Pictures
Answers for clients searching for picture restoration near me, online photo restoration, and nationwide old picture repair services.
Usually a small image, such as a passport-size 2x2 photo, can be enlarged to about 5x7 or 8x10. If the original is larger and sharp, the photo may be enlarged further to 11x14 or more. The final size depends on the quality, sharpness, damage, and detail in the original image.
You can send a high-resolution scan, a sharp phone photo, or a professional copy. A scan between 600 and 1200 dpi is ideal, but newer phones can work if the photo is taken carefully in even light with no glare and the phone held parallel to the print.
Most clients searching for picture restoration near me upload a photo first so Karen can evaluate the image before anything is shipped. If the original needs professional copying or special handling, Karen will guide you on the safest next step.
Yes. For online and nationwide picture restoration clients, emailing or uploading a high-resolution duplicate is usually the best first step. Please send the largest, sharpest file available, preferably over 2 MB.
If the file is not good enough for a professional restoration, Karen may recommend a better phone photo, a high-resolution scan, or another safe way to duplicate the original before quoting the full restoration.
Yes. Faded photographs can often be restored by carefully rebuilding contrast, tonal range, missing density, and detail. The goal is to make the image clearer while preserving the original character of the photograph.
Yes. Torn, ripped, scratched, cracked, or creased photos can often be digitally repaired. If important detail is missing, Karen reviews the image first to determine whether the missing areas can be realistically rebuilt.
Many water-damaged photos can be improved, including images with stains, spotting, discoloration, fading, mold marks, or surface damage. Severe water damage may require extra artwork and close review before a final quote is confirmed.
Sometimes. A slightly soft or low-quality image may be improved, but a severely blurry or very low-resolution photo may not contain enough recoverable facial detail. Karen reviews difficult images honestly before accepting the project.
Yes. Black-and-white photos can often be colorized with careful artistic judgment. Karen can also keep the image black-and-white, restore it in sepia, or create both a classic restored version and a colorized version.
Karen does not physically remove damaged photos from glass because the original can be irreparably harmed. In many cases, she can photograph the image through the glass to create a duplicate without glare, then restore the digital copy. The original must be evaluated first.
Karen does not restore directly on your precious original. She duplicates the original first by photographing or scanning it, then restores the digital duplicate and can create an archival print, canvas, framed piece, or high-resolution file from the restored version.
Picture restoration projects start at $750. Most detailed heirloom restorations are commonly quoted in the $800–$1,200+ range depending on damage, missing detail, final size, copy work, prints, canvas, framing, and whether you need a digital file.
Because every damaged photograph is different, Karen needs to see the image before giving an accurate quote.
After the quote is approved, full payment is required before restoration work begins. Because picture restoration is custom artwork, refunds are not provided. Karen takes great pride in the final result and offers one re-edit after delivery to provide the best possible finished restoration.
You can read more client feedback on the Karen Vaisman Photography reviews page.
Yes. Karen offers archival quality prints, canvas, and custom framing so the restored image can become a finished family heirloom. High-resolution digital files, prints, and canvases can be shipped nationwide.
Framed pieces may require special handling because glass can be fragile in transit. Karen will discuss the safest delivery option before the project is finalized.
Museum-quality picture restoration means the work is handled with respect for the original image, facial likeness, tonal detail, and historical character. It is not just a quick cleanup; it may include careful retouching, reconstruction, color correction, archival printing, and finishing.
You can try basic restoration yourself, but for archival results and irreplaceable family photos, it is best to work with a professional. Karen creates a high-resolution duplicate, restores the digital copy, and prepares the final image for digital use, archival printing, canvas, or framing.

Photo Restoration Client Testimonials
Karen took on my photo restoration job and did an absolutely wonderful job. Karen was able to improve the resolution by about 600 percent and brought back all the details that were lost in the original photo. - Jill Arnold
Karen restored a vintage (over 100 years old) photograph for me. It was a very challenging task, but she did a fantastic job. She listened to my wishes and preferences. - G. Williams
Talk about a "Photo Restoration Professional"!! Thank you Karen for being the expert restoration artist that you are. I desperately looked for a person to restore an old high school yearbook photo of my beautiful now, deceased son. Finally, I found Karen!! I had already spent $$ without getting any satisfied results. Her turn-around time was expedient. Tears came to my eyes when she unveiled her finished photo restoration of my beautiful son. If you are looking for Photo Restoration, Karen is by far the person you need. -Elaine G
I used Karen Vaisman to make a wedding montage as a gift for my parents. I gave her old photos of my grandparent's at their wedding and my parents at their wedding, and a few from my own wedding, and she was able to digitally incorporate them all into one montage that was printed on a canvas. It looked amazing, and it's such a unique gift! - Talia Machlouf
I have so enjoyed the work Karen has done for us. In one piece that she did, she was able to creatively capture exactly what we wanted. She took an old, dark photo of my husband and me, brightened it, improved its quality, and provided an elegant, meaningful background. The care and attention to detail meant a lot to us. Her impressive artistic ability with the framing and matting combination made this a gift of a lifetime for my mother. - B. E.
This was my first time using a Photo restoration service. She responded to my request quickly and we talked about my project on the phone. I was advised of the limitations of the process because my "photo" was in fact a 60 years old black and white photocopy of my mother and in bad condition. After our discussion, I was totally convinced that Karen was the perfect person for the job-She had excellent communication skills and an extensive knowledge and experience in photography and photo restoration services. I immediately sent her the copy of my mother’s old black and white photo, and a few days later she informed me that the restored photo was on its way. The final product far exceeds what I thought I might get. Karen did an amazing job restoring the old damaged pictures of my mother. I couldn’t praise Karen enough for bringing life into those photos. She provided brilliant service from start to end. I love this picture of my mother. It shows fine detail in the end product and amazing results. I highly recommend using Karen’s professional services for any photo restoration projects! - Carlos Avila
