Usually a small image (passport size 2x2) can be enlarged to about 5x7 sometimes and 8x10. If the original is larger, the photo can be enlarged further to 11x14 or larger, if it is a sharp original image. It is usually best to snap a photo with your mobile phone and email it to us for advice and a photo restoration Boston quote.

1) Unless you are highly skilled at scanning a photo in 600 - 1200 dpi, your photo can often be reproduced better with the high-resolution copy made with a professional camera - it depends on the original and if the original photo has a texture to the paper.

2) With newer iPhones or mobile devices with high resolution photos, if you are skilled enough to take a photo (outdoors in the shade, lay the photo on the ground) and take a photo with NO GLARE - I may be able to use the image you email to me.

Yes! It is more economical for you to email me your photo if you are able to provide a high enough resolution, sharp duplicate of the original we can work from that file (prefer over 2 MB file). If not you can drop off the original at our studio in Agoura Hills, California and we can make the professional duplicate for you prior to retouching or colorization. We understand how precious your original is, and we will take tender care of your special memories.

No. We treasure your memories and are not skilled at removing damaged photos from glass. We can photograph it through the glass to make a duplicate without glare (if possible and the image hasn’t become metallicized - to look like metal). We would need to evaluate the original. We will not remove the photo from the glass as it an be irreparably damaged and we would not take on that responsibility. If you choose to do it yourself and it comes apart in pieces, we can photoshop it back together and perhaps create lost parts of the image depending on how damaged and how much of it is missing.

Yes. If you would like to duplicate the original with your own high resolution camera or newer mobile phone (iPhone 11 or higher) - the quality will probably work if you can take a sharp, glare-free photo, with no color tint from indoor lighting (outdoor photos taken in the shade are the best and must be in focus.) This works if you do not want the photo enlarged more than 8x10. Larger sizes would need to be reproduced in my studio with a high resolution 45 megapixel professional camera / lens.

I DO NOT RESTORE ON THE ORIGINAL, I DUPLICATE YOUR ORIGINAL and enhance and restore the digital duplicate, then create an archival print from the digital file. I copy it first (by photograph, or scan). I create a duplicate of your original, and repair the damages or add new enhancements to a new copy for you in Adobe Photoshop (digitally in the computer). I sometimes I get asked to repair an older original - I would recommend you look for a museum quality restoration service that handle delicate, specialized archival work as I do not work on your precious original picture.

5. Jobs are based on difficulty, by the hour, and by desired product and size of print. Jobs start at $500 and up for museum quality. I need to see the image to provide a quote.

6. Two Options for Copy Work:

A. $0 - Most Economical - I am able to restore old photos from a high resolution image that you send me (2 MB or larger) if you take care to reproduce your photo carefully (in focus, no glare, photographed outdoors in the shade) and email it to me it is a more budget-friendly option using a newer mobile phone (iPhone 11 or newer) or use a high-resolution digital camera.

B. $ Fee-Based - Or I can do the copy work for you with a 45 megapixel high resolution camera, professionally lit in my studio to avoid glare. Your original photograph should be dropped off at my Agoura Hills studio. I prefer a precious one-of-a-kind original picture is not mailed, as it may be damaged or lost in transit. I take the greatest of care to preserve and care for non-replaceable memories.

7. Please indicate if you want print and digital final product (or both) and what size prints.

8. Most jobs start at $500 and up. Average jobs are $500 - $900 depending on size, hours of work, prints, digital and copywork.

9. After quote is approved, I do ask for prepayment due to the custom nature of the work.

10. Your order may be picked up in my Agoura Hills California studio by appointment, or I do ship products without glass (i.e. archival prints and canvases).

Upon quote approval we do ask for full payment of the quote prior to beginning work on the job. Due to the custom nature of the work, we do not provide refunds.
